12/1/2023 0 Comments 2013 equinox motorThis issue first came to my attention after I started doing work on it after we started dating. ![]() and I hate it so much I'm here typing about it. When I found out that GM got sued over this crappy engine and lost and responded by doing a useless warranty extension I was furious. Every vehicle from now on will either be Japanese or Korean. I will never buy American made junk again. The initial diagnosis was it needed a new timing chain, but once they got the motor apart they found bent valves and rods so the $1500 job then became a $5000 job. One hour and $140 dollars later I had finally arrived back at the shop in the cab of a tow truck. I will make a second complaint for this, but 1,000 miles after I got the green light to keep driving the Equinox in blew up in the middle of a bust roadway on a hot day on the way to pick up my kid from daycare. After the gave me the green light to keep driving it I was pretty happy, but it definitely wasn’t over yet. Somehow I added the oil and it kept running, but I was worried about the possible damage created in the motor so I took it to a shop to check it out. That is when I discovered that there was only 1 quart of oil left in the motor. ![]() Sadly, the the POS did not start making noise under the hood until the 4,000 mile mark. It actually came with a 90 day/3,000 mile warranty. Good Luck to all other Chevy Oil Consumptioners.īought my 2013 Chevy Equinox used from a dealer who advertised it as a fantastic 1 owner vehicle that was well taken care of and was in amazing shape. My car though, ran and drove without oil 3 times and once oil was put back in it, drove like a gem! I love my 2013 equinox, so far I have no need for a new vehicle, and I will not buy a newer equinox because I don't like the way they look and I really don't like how the dealership and GM has dealt with the issue. GM will not help with this even though I have been dealing with it 8 out 10 years of ownership. oil, and then just a few weeks ago, I let my child borrow my car for a few months, he had a brake issue so my car sat in his drive for about 10 days, I went to pick it up and bring home and got about 2 miles before I HAD to stop and check the oil, it was so empty that the dipstick oil was crusty. So from that point on, I checked the oil constantly, had it happen again on another trip, had to put in 5 qts. we finished getting to my daughters new home, unpacked and before heading home checked the oil, BONE DRY! like WTH? I called the dealership about the recall letter and they said it had been completed and passed so there was nothing they can do.EERRRGGGG. 1000 miles from home to help my daughter move, packed car then drove another 600 miles, about 3/4 of the way to the new house my car started jerking again like it was starving for fuel, just like the first time. ![]() I continued to add oil as needed, if needed in-between changes. A few months later I received a recall notice to take my car for an oil change to a dealership, then 3 months later take it back for another oil change so they can recheck the level, they said there was no missing oil and my piston rings were fine. One day my car started jerking like it was starving for fuel, took to mechanic, he said fuel system is fine but was over a quart low on oil so he filled it up but couldn't find a leak so he looked up recalls and found the one for piston rings, but it only went up to 2012 and GM was working on adding the 2013 so I needed to keep adding the oil until it was added. Everything was perfect for about 2 years, I am not one to put lots of miles on my car but I still maintained it extremely well, so well even my personal mechanic couldn't believe how clean it was, no rust, inside was immaculate and mileage fairly low. I bought my 2013 Equinox brand new, maybe 10 miles on it from driving on/off delivery truck and around yard.
